Some people (like me) like desserts. Some people (like me) have problems with a fat intake. Healthy fat that is. I love olive oil, nuts and avocado, but I most of the time “forget” to eat more of that good stuff. My boyfriend likes avocado only sometimes, when it has a specific level or ripeness, or with specific meals, but not able to say which ones, it also depends on a mood and weather and temperature of our morning tea before finishing it. This moo-less chocolate mouse is a great way to get your avocado in, even if you don’t like the taste of it. For some people it can be a little “blah.” This recipe is originally from Diane Sanfilippo, the woman behind Balanced Bites and an amazing book Practical Paleo (recipe can be found in this book and also oh her website). Her original ingredients list calls for some kind of honey, maple sirup or other sweetener, but in my opinion the sweetness of a banana is well enough for this lovely, creamy, fatty pudding like desert. Without any added sweetener, it is also completely 21 Day Sugar Detox friendly! :) That is why I made it today ;)
You are gonna need the following (enough for two medium portions):
1 banana, 1 softer avocado, 2-3 tablespoons of coconut milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (I love how there is a “for about 5kg of flour” written on the extract, lol), 2-3 heaping tablespoons of good quality cacao powder (not cocoa, CA-CA-O!!!) and optionally something for garnish (nuts, seeds, banana slices, coconut., chocolate nibs… whipped coconut cream?) You are also going to need some kind of food processor, but I think hand mixer can work too.
STEP 1 – Chop avocado and place it to the blender.
STEP 3 – Add coconut milk.
STEP 4 – Blend until smooth.
STEP 5 – Add banana chopped in to pieces. (Might wanna do this in two steps like I did, in case your food processor is smaller like mine…)
STEP 6 – Blend until smoooooooth.
STEP 7 – Add cocoa powder on top.
STEP 8 – Blend one last time until the cocoa powder is fully blended in the avo-nana mix (lol I just made that up)
STEP 9 – Serve in a small bowls and garnish with something if you want.
STEP 10 – Eat. Enjoy. Smile.
1) You can skip the cocoa if you want to, it tastes amazing even without it. And the color is pretty :)
2) The other day I made a batch of this mouse and I poured it in a popsickle mold just to test it out. It turned out amazing, the best popsickle EVER!!!
